Boyhood

There are many relatable moments in this film, there are many moments in this film where they place in real world current events. One of them being the elections in 2008 when Obama was running for president. It makes me think back to when I was in elementary school and we were learning about the presidency. And in my community being almost all minorities Obama was hugely favored to win the presidency just like the dad in the movie was a big fan of Obama to the point he was promoting him all around town.

In the film there a lot of problems in the beginning that come up from the divorce, we can see how the mother found a new husband and the kids live two completely different lives. The problems they experienced I wasn’t able to fully relate to since my parents are both together, but I have seen several family members go through the same problems. There were times where my uncles and aunts are going through a divorce and I can see my cousin being torn apart.

Another part where I felt I was able to relate was near the end when Mason went off to college and you can see how his life is completely changing. At his graduation party you can see how both of his parents come together and reminisce on how they raised their son, they tell themselves “we did a good a job”. This scene in particular stands out because everyone is together in this one room celebrating this big moment. Since for a lot of parents a big goal of them is for their son/daughter to graduate High School and send them off to college.
